What is Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine is primary care for adults. Internists perform exams, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments, administer vaccinations, and recommend preventive measures.
In Dr. Ellen Chelnitsky’s internal medicine practice, she treats both acute and chronic disease processes. These include cardiac, pulmonary, renal, gastro-intestinal, infectious disease, rheumatological, and other organ systems. Some of the specific conditions include treatment and management of chronic conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), joint diseases. Acute conditions such as sinus infections, upper respiratory conditions, acute joint problems such as sprains are also treated.
Dr. Chelnitsky’s practice concentrates on prevention of serious diseases. Patients are educated on the importance of healthy lifestyle, incorporation of healthy diet and exercise into everyday lives. Patients are encouraged to get annual exams (or more frequent depending on the risk factors), including full blood work. Patients are regularly screened for age appropriate diseases and referred for appropriate recommended screening.
